Level up Your WordPress Security: Quarantine the Admin

Given on July 01, 2020

WordPress powers a tremendous number of websites. It is easy to use, familiar, and comes with an incredible community. This success, however, comes with one major drawback: security. Because of its ubiquity, WordPress is a prime target for hackers. There are many possible attack vectors, but this talk will focus on one that is uniquely WordPress: the admin. This is a non-technical talk, and some of the things we will cover include the following:

  • Change the login URL
  • Add a captcha
  • Whitelist IP addresses
  • And plenty more to protect your site’s admin section!

Unfortunately, this talk was not recorded. I wrote down much of what we covered here: How to Secure the WordPress Admin.

I’ve also put the slides from the talk up for your convenience: slides from the talk.
